What is the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal designed to do?
The OstoSolutions Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal is a patent-pending device and the only method available in the marketplace to seal the contents of used ostomy pouches in a 100% odor-proof manner. Once the Pouch Disposal Seal is pressed into place, the used pouch can be disposed of without any worries about odor.
The Pouch Disposal Seal is designed to make a pouch change as efficient as possible. Less change time means less odor. With very little practice, you will be able to change your pouch and seal the used pouch for disposal in less than 20 seconds.
Why is the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal better than black zipper bags or food storage bags?
These black bags and food storage bags were never designed to store stool. They are not airtight and therefore are not odor-proof. If you have tried these disposal methods, you have probably found that odor emits from the bags and results in an unpleasant odor when left in the privacy of your own bathroom. When left at work, at a friend's home, and numerous other places you might go, the odor from these bags is extremely embarrassing.
To test these bags for yourself, seal one of black bags with some air inside and place it in a sink full of water. Apply light pressure and you will see air leaking out of the bag, which is how odor is emitted from the bags.
There may be some rare times when you want to discard your used pouch sealed with an Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal in such a way that it will not be visible in the trash. In this case, bring along a plastic grocery bag or similar bag and put the sealed used pouch into your bag to ensure out-of-sight disposal. Keep in mind that hiding the used pouch is relatively easy. Hiding the odor is a whole different story.
Is access to a bathroom and toilet required to make a pouch change?
No, using the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal, you do not need access to a toilet to change a closed-end pouch or drainable pouch with Velcro® clipless tail closure technology.
While a private bathroom and toilet located in the comfort of your own home is the most desirable setting to make a pouch change, people with ostomies often find themselves in places where draining or changing their pouch can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing. Even worse, many just avoid doing activities or going places that they enjoyed prior to having an ostomy.
Using the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal, all you need is a private setting to change your closed-end or drainable pouch (with Velcro® clipless closure technology). Once the pouch is closed with the Pouch Disposal Seal, the used pouch can be stored and disposed of at a convenient time and place.
How does the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal work if I use closed-end pouches?
The Pouch Disposal Seal is pressed onto the used closed-end pouch for odor-proof disposal. For the first time, you no longer have to search for a way to dispose of your used pouches.
If you are in the comfort of your own bathroom, follow these steps and tips:
1. Have a box of tissues conveniently located on or near your toilet. Alternatively, pull out a small quantity of toilet paper to be used to wipe the stoma area after removing the used pouch. Note that tissues are a better choice than toilet paper due to ease of use.
2. While standing up, carefully remove your pouch from your wafer and immediately close the used pouch with the Pouch Disposal Seal, pressing around the seal to ensure the cap is sealed just as you would if you were snapping the pouch onto your wafer.
3. Pull off two tissues (or use toilet paper) and wipe your stoma and discard the tissues in the toilet.
4. Put on your new pouch.
Access to a toilet is not required to make a pouch change.
How does the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal work if I use drainable pouches with "clipless" tail closure technology?
If you have a colostomy and your drainable pouch has a Velcro® clipless tail closure, there is no need to empty the stool contents of your pouch on the last use. Just remove your drainable pouch from your wafer and press the Pouch Disposal Seal onto the used drainable pouch and dispose of it at a convenient time and place.
There are two major benefits from not having to drain your pouch on the last use:
First, you do not have to have a toilet to make the change. If you do have access to a toilet, you do not have to sit on it since the pouch change is made standing up. This can be especially beneficial if you are not in the comfort of your own home. The need for a pouch change may come at any inconvenient time, such as at work, in a restaurant, at a friend's house, on an airplane, on the golf course, or in any number of uncomfortable settings. You can now change your pouch without emptying the contents by using the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal to seal the used pouch.
Secondly, the pouch can be changed in less than 20 seconds. Less change time means less odor.
In essence, by NOT emptying your drainable pouch on the last use, you are utilizing the drainable pouch as a "closed-end" pouch on that last use. If you are not already using closed-end pouches in combination with your drainable pouches for different situations, you will find that closed-end pouches are an excellent option. Now that closed-end pouches can be sealed in a 100% odor-proof manner using the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal, there is no reason not to use closed-end pouches as a pouching option.
You will find that this simple product will improve your quality of life and that there will be no limits to the things you can do and the places you can go.

Can you give me more information about Velcro® clipless tail closure systems for drainable pouches?
The three major ostomy supply companies have all developed technologies to eliminate the difficulties found with traditional clips by introducing various versions of a Velcro® clipless integrated tail closure system as described below. The ostomy community has enthusiastically embraced these new tail closure technologies.
By combining the "clipless" closure innovation with the patent-pending OstoSolutions' Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal, users now have a significant opportunity to improve their quality of life. Because the drainable pouch does not have to be drained on the last use, pouch changes can be done in a matter of seconds, with less odor, and can be accomplished in any private setting, with or without the need for a toilet.
Coloplast - EasiClose™
Coloplast manufactures a pouch with an EasiClose™ integrated tail closure that uses Velcro® technology. The wider tail of the pouch is supported by thin foam, allowing it to open more easily by squeezing the sides when emptying. The tail is rolled three times, and then secured with two Velcro® tabs.
ConvaTec - InvisiClose®
ConvaTec introduced the InvisiClose® system, which uses a plastic interlocking material to close the tail. There are thin end strips at the end of the tail, allowing it to open more easily during emptying. The closure is rolled four times, then pressed together until you can feel the two sides "grab" each other. A single additional security flap is rolled in the opposite direction for more protection.
Hollister - Lock 'n Roll™
Hollister introduced the Lock 'n Roll™ system, which uses specialized plastic fasteners. The end of the tail of has thin strips that allow it to be 'pinched' to facilitate emptying. The tail is rolled three times, and then closed to seal the tail.
Does the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal work if I use drainable pouches with a tail clip?
The Pouch Disposal Seal will not be of any benefit if you retain the clip for use on your next drainable pouch. However, if you find yourself in situation where you urgently need to change the pouch and do not have access to a restroom, the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal can be a lifesaver.
In this situation, find a private location, leave the pouch clip on, remove your drainable pouch, and seal the contents with the Pouch Disposal Seal. Put on your new pouch and store the sealed used pouch in a 100% odor-proof manner until you have a chance to discard it in the trash at a convenient time.
Can ileostomy patients benefit from the Pouch Disposal Seal?
Yes, as long as you use drainable pouches with Velcro® clipless tail closure technology. As you know, the primary reason to change your pouch is that the pouch itself becomes odorous. Once you drain the pouch for the last time, close the tail and then press on the Pouch Disposal Seal for odor-proof disposal.
Can the Ostomy Pouch Disposal Seal work if I have a urostomy?
No, the Pouch Disposal Seal will not be of any benefit for someone with a urostomy.
